Russian photographer Sasha Gusov was introduced to photography at the age of 13 by his uncle, who was a school photographer. But it was after he discovered BIP that he became motivated to carve out a career for himself as a photographer. In 1989 he moved to London to pursue his dream, initially supporting himself as a dishwasher and photographic printer. His first major project (images of the Bolshoi Ballet) appeared in BIP in 1993, and from there Gusov was catapulted in to the limelight with commissions from English National Ballet, The Daily Telegraph and The Times.
