Teske made a series of photographs combining various negatives with images from Mono Lake. He first visited the lake in 1971 and was entranced by the twisted and unearthly forms of the tufas. These mysterious formations rising up out of Mono Lake became fertile ground for his imagination and a continued theme in his work. He said it gives one a sense of “grotto” or “temple” as they create altar-like forms in appearance.
