Wayne Liu born in 1979, Wayne Liu spent the first five years of his life in Taiwan before emigrating to the United States. For ten years, he has been using photography as a medium capable of documenting the permeability between the facts and memories of his childhood. He currently lives and works in New York. Wayne Liu’s work is rooted in his personal history of Chinese immigrants in the United States. He has spent several years following in the footsteps of his childhood, spent in Taiwan from 1979 to 1984. These memories, smells, visions and impressions define an inner landscape that he evokes as “ruins in reverse,” a phrase that he also applies to contemporary China.
