These two photographers, Huub Schilte (1953) and Jacqueline Portielje (1958), met in 1975 and since 1997 they present their combined work under the name Schilte & Portielje. Interesting fact is that although they work together, they can also work on one photo independently. They complement each other and work intuitively, without a premeditated plan. The usage of photography combined with drawing or painting with the help of computers, is pertinent in all of their work. Furthermore, everything they create is in black and white. This increases the distance between the art and reality. This way, the viewer can make up his/her own story when seeing a work.
For Schilte & Portielje, highlights of their career include the fact that their work is collected on a national and international level. For example, an art collector living in Barcelona already has fifty works of Schilte & Portielje. Furthermore, their work has been exhibited all over the world over the years. In 2011, they had the honor of being exhibited at ‘Paris Photo’ in France and they participated in the exhibition ‘Photo LA’.”
