Photographer Oriol Maspons (Barcelona, 1928) has donated a total of 16 photographs, that he shot between 1955 and 1975, to the Museu Textil i Indumentaria de Barcelona for its fashion photography collection.
Maspons lived in Paris between 1955 and 1957 where he collaborated with magazines such as Paris Match and Elle. Upon his return he joined the editorial council of AFAL magazine and was active in the Agrupacio Fotografica de Catalunya. His work was published in a number of specialist magazines including Nueva Lente, Annual Photography and PhotographyYear Book.
His images also illustrate books such as Poeta en Nueva York, by Federico Garcia Lorca (1966), La caza de la perdiz roja by Miguel Delibes, Arquitectura gotica catalana by Alexandre Cirici (1974), Arte visigodo en Espana, by Pere de Palol, La Universitat de Barcelona, by Fabia Estape (1981) and Els barcelonins, where he collaborated with Xavier Miserachs i Colita (1981).
In 2006 he received the Saint Jordi’s Cross from the Catalan Government for his contribution to the revolution of the visual language of journalism in Spain during the 1960′s and for his international renown
The work of Maspons can be viewed at museums inclduing the MoMA in New York and the MNAC in Barcelona, where one can view over 1.500 vintage images.
The photographs will be incorporated into the fashion photography collection at the MTIB that also includes the work of photographers such as Carles Roig, Txema Yeste, Maria Espeus and Antoni Bernad.
