Born and raised in middle of Germany Jan has lived through some turbulences and beautiful times and has grown to be an experienced traveller and sportsman with a a passionate heart and love for everything outdoors.
He currently is based in Berlin, working as a freelance photographer, traveling as much as possible.
His huge interest in the unknown fueled the fire of his motivation to capture and create the world around him in any possible way. He discovered the world of visual expression, constantly learning and adding old as well as modern techniques to his repertoire. Handling cameras, experimenting with analogue as well as digital ways to capture light quickly became a passion and with that a central point of his life and after all led him to a career as a photographer.
Being fascinated by the little moments of honesty, spontaneity and confidence, by the way light behaves and what it changes inside us, by braving gravity and by the sheer feeling of being alive – Jan captures what he finds around himself. His main sources of inspiration are music, friends, his melancholic mind, the sun and travel.
Mostly shooting outdoor adventure and sports lifestyle and culture as well as portraits, he uses a variety of modern as well as antique techniques from 35mm up to ultra large format and alternative processes including the Wet Plate Collodion Process, dating back to 1851.
Combining the slow, time consuming, old fashioned technique with a young mind, a lot of energy and a rather modern approach, Jan consistently sets out for new challenging proposals to produce very special one of a kind images.
As one of a very few Jan also teaches the Wet Plate Collodion Process in well arranged workshops around Berlinю
