Chiara Samugheo is the first woman to become a photographer in Italy, primarily engaged in photojournalism.
His first reports denouncing the negative and disturbing faces of Italy:
barracks on the outskirts of Naples (“The baraccate di Napoli”, “Gli scugnizzi napoletani”), the prison (“The regina delle zingare in carcere”) or the disturbing phenomena Apulia (“The invasate”).
In the late fifties, she abandons the documentary and dedicated her work to the world of divas, immortalizing artists and movie stars. Her pictures are a living memory of a time and sign the covers of the most prestigious magazines in the world. The economic boom sparked the success of these new periodicals, rich color photos of the Divas, worldly stories, women object.
