Cuba, El Rincon (Santiago de la Vega). Every 17 of December, San Lazaro’s celebration, thousands of pilgrims from all over Cuba make a pilgrimage to the Santuario del Rincon, in Santiago de la Vega. A number of them are sick people and beggars, and they all go to this little village 30 kilometers away from Havana for different reasons and expressions of their religious feeling. They make this journey on their knees, crawling or barefood, pulling big stones or heavy chains tied to their bodies for days or weeks.
