Surun lives and works in Paris. She was nominated BOOK Major at EFET’s photographic school in Paris. She takes pictures of survivors, because their emotional strength touches her: living, vigorous bodies that shout about how to defend their paradises. She is a member of the collective Tendance Floue. Her work has been published in newspapers and magazines such as Le Monde, L’Express, La Vie, Elle, Psychologies magazine, De L’air, Newsweek and YO Donna. She has been awarded several prizes including: the Grand Prix at the Biarritz Festival (2001); Joop Swart Masterclass of the World Press Fondation (2001); and Bourse du talent n°16 (2002).

“Totem” is a photographic series produced by Flora-Ael Surun , a graduate of the School of Photography EFET (Paris) and member of the collective Fuzzy Trend . In this ongoing series, it combines self-portraits and portraits of animals through the principle of the overlay. Inspired by the shamanic experience, she seeks to represent the animal essence present in all of us.
