Alvaro Sanchez-Montañes is a photographer born and raised in Madrid (1973) where he lived until completing his University studies. He is currently living in Barcelona where he has developed his photography career for several years now. His work has been exhibited in Madrid, Barcelona and New York among other cities, achieving several awards and mentions such as the Epson Photography Award 2009, Descubrimientos PhotoEspaña 2010 (finalist) and International Photo Award 2009. His work is present in numerous public and private collections.

Upon reading of Namibia’s abandoned diamond mines, Lanzarote / Barcelona-based photographer Alvaro Sanchez-Montañes, set himself on one day documenting the ghost towns and disused properties that had been, over time, ravaged by the unforgiving Namib desert. The otherworldly images that he finally captured look part art-installation, part post-apocalyptic, yet the beauty of the starkness encapsulated within these images manages to portray desolation and loneliness as magical and mysterious. Sanchez-Montañes’ breathtaking photographs are as inspirational as they are intriguing …
