Heavy velvet curtains, carnival tents and dripping neon lights – the red hues in Giovanni Cocco’s (1973) Burladies series, beckon us to join in the fun with the hearty and voluptuous queens of burlesque.

After years of photographing his native Abruzzo from an anthropological perspective, the Italian photographer turned his lens to social and environmental reportages, alternating between dripping color and dreamlike tableaux in black and white. His work has been published in leading international news magazines. In 2010, he is selected fot the VII Mentor Program.
