Finlay MacKay was born in 1973
studied fine art photography at glasgow school of art in the mid-90s before moving down to london to pursue his
own career in photography. after assisting photographers such as julian broad and alex cayley he took up a full time
assistant’s position with elaine constantine between 1999 and 2002.
in 2002 he started to focus on his own portfolio; his early self-funded tests were published in mind and quickly secured
him his first major commercial commission for diesel. the resulting “work hard” campaign won finlay and kesselskramer
3 bronze lions at cannes.
since then finlay has gone on to shoot campaigns for nike, adidas, olympus, british telecom, the scottish ballet and
harrods as well as editorial features for magazine’s such as the face, sleazenation, mined and arena.
finlay has spent much of the past year traveling on assignment for the new york times magazine for which he recently shot
david cameron, the dap tones, michael phelps and steve nash.
recent commercial clients have included umbro, nike, lavazza and kesselskramer.
