Matthieu currently lives in Hong Kong, which he uses as a base for continuing his work throughout Asia. The recipient of several awards, Matthieu’s photographs often explore themes of remoteness and isolation in geopolitically sensitive areas. Over the last 10 years, Matthieu’s work has appeared in Géo, National Geographic Adventure, Newsweek, Time, Outside, Discovery, Vanity Fair and Figaro among others. He has collaborated on numerous books including a book on Siberia, ‘Serko” for Les Editions du Chêne and a recent monograph on Mongolia titled “Open Horizon”, at the Editions de la Martinière. He is currently working on his next book, on the Kyrgyz of the Afghan Pamir, “Forgotten on the roof of the World”, a project he started 10 years ago.
